Sequoia Christian Home Educators’ Chorale

What is the Sequoia Christian Home Educators’ Chorale?

This amazing group had its start in 2009, providing a wonderful opportunity for home schoolers of the Central Valley to make beautiful, God-honoring music together. The group was started by  Chelsea McCafferty and accompanist Rosie Lambert. For three years we worked with CHEVA (Christian Home Educators of the Visalia Area) directing the choirs. The program was a great success and delight. The choir went independent in the Fall of 2012 due to CHEVA’s dissolving. Each semester we continue to grow and experience even more wonderful music and teamwork. In Spring 2014 we participated in the CMEA (California Music Educator’s Association) choral festival in Visalia, representing homeschooling for the first time in this area on such a large scale. We were honored in both the Visalia Times Delta and the Foothill Sun Gazette in Exeter. The choir is enriching educationally, spiritually, socially and also is a blessing to many others, including the elderly we perform for each semester. Our goal is to teach music, sing music and minister with music!

Who is Mrs. Chelsea McCafferty?

Mrs. Chelsea has been teaching music and performing for over 10 years, both privately and in class settings. She graduated from Chapman University Conservatory of Music in Orange County in 2003 with two degrees in music: Vocal Performance and Music Education (Emphasis Choral Conducting). She studied under choral directing legend Dr. William Hall and has traveled with groups singing and conducting around the world. She also offers private music lessons in Voice, Violin and Piano. Chelsea is joined in this exciting program by the amazing pianist Rosie Lambert, who has been with the choir since its start. Mrs. Rosie also teaches piano in Visalia and is an amazing accompanist and person.

Families have the option of paying in full or through monthly installments. Payments are not based on the number of lessons in the month so it shouldn’t be construed as a monthly payment to pay for that particular month. The fee is for the semester and the monthly installments are simply to make it easier for parents to pay. Payments should be made directly to Chelsea McCafferty. If you would like a statement/receipt please let her know. Upon registration please send $10 registration fee (per student per choir) as well as first month’s payment or full tuition with registration form. Refunds will not be offered in the middle of a semester if the student drops out (unless an emergency in which case special arrangements will be made).

Choir Expectations (please go over with the students)

• Choirs will learn a variety of styles of choral music from various genres.

• Students will engage in vocal warm-ups and exercises each week.

• Choir rehearsals will include some music history and theory.

• Choir rehearsals will be orderly, educational and fun too!

• Students are responsible to bring their music to rehearsal

• Students cannot bring food or drinks into rehearsal except for bottled water (no gum)

Concert Attire:

Families are responsible for making sure students have proper concert attire. Girls should wear black dress pants or skirts and a white blouse or button-up top. Ladies must also wear hair pulled back away from face for concerts. Boys should wear black slacks and a white button-up top. Black shoes. NO jeans or shorts. Please make sure all attire is modest and clean.

Parental Involvement:

If you like to help there are several opportunities to get involved. If you would like to be a choir assistant, please contact Chelsea and let her know. Choir assistants help during choir practice with keeping the class focused, handing out music or other paperwork and just being available to help out. Another way to help is with the concerts. If you would be willing to produce and print our programs, head up our after-concert reception, bring cookies or treats to the reception or help with decorations, please let Chelsea know.

If you’d like to be emailed a registration form, please use the contact form below. One will be emailed to you promptly. 🙂 God bless!
